Dewdrops form when the temperature of the ground and surrounding air cools at night, allowing moisture in the air to condense. On cloudy nights, clouds trap and reflect the Earth’s radiation back towards the surface, preventing the ground from cooling sufficiently to reach the dew point temperature necessary for condensation. Thus, the presence of clouds inhibits dew formation by maintaining relatively warmer temperatures compared to clear nights, where heat escapes more readily.
